Bandits kill Union Bank staff member, abduct another in Zamfara

Bandits on Sunday killed a staff member of Union Bank and abducted another on the Gusau–Funtua highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Security and counter-insurgency analyst, Zagazola Makama, said that the incident occurred about 2:40 p.m. at Kucheri village when the bandits opened fire on a GAC SUG vehicle with registration number BDG 251 HZ, which was in motion.

He quoted sources to have confirmed that the vehicle was conveying two bank staff members identified as Zakari Leo, the regional manager of Union Bank PLC, and Muhammad Sani Suleman, both attached to the Yakubu Gowon Way branch of the bank in Kaduna State.

A team of security forces was swiftly mobilized in the scene.

The surrounding bushes were combed, and Mr Leo was found alive, while Mr Suleman, who sustained gunshot injuries, was rushed to the General Hospital in Tsafe.

He was later referred to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau but died before reaching the facility.

He quoted sources to have said that the deceased’s body had been released to the management of Union Bank PLC, Gusau branch, for burial.
