National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, admitted on Friday that it was is true that he collected N100million from a sitting governor, as alleged by Governor Nyesom Wike.
Ayu, however, said that he did not deploy the money in meeting personal needs.
He stated that the money was put in the party’s coffer and used for the project it was meant.
Hus riposte came few hours after Wike accused him of corruption.
Wike had said that aside the N100 million taken from the governor, Ayu also collected N1 billion from a presidential aspirant in Lagos.
But speaking on the two issues, the party boss told reporters after a meeting of the Board of Trustee (BoT) at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, that both stories were correct.
Ayu explained that they occurred but denied any wrongdoing in both cases.
He said that the issue of N1billion started when they came into office and needed money to hit the ground running.
He declared that the party had wanted to take a loan, but the idea was latter shelved.
He made it clear that he did not collect any money as the National Chairman of the Party.
In the same vein, he said the story around the N100 million was also true but that he collected it from a PDP Governor and that he was employing it judiciously for the renovation of the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI), which according to him, would be inaugurated soonest.
He explained that the money was not even exhausted, adding that a letter had been dispatched to the said governor to come and see what the money had been used for.
