Attack on Soludo: Police Confirm arrest of suspect

Anambra State Policep Commissioner, Bala Kuryas, has confirmed the death of three policemen during the Wednesday attack by gunmen on former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

He also confirmed the arrest of a suspect connected with the attack.

The commisdioner sIx these after an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the attack on the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Anambra State Police Commissioner had ordered investigations into the incident to bring perpetrators to book while providing tight security around Soludo.

A statement issued by the police Command and signed by the police public relations officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, a Chief Superintendent of Polic (CSP), read: “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Monday Bala Kuryas in the evening hours of, 31st March, 2021, led a crack team of Police Operatives for on-the-spot assessment to the venue of a stakeholders/ community meeting at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata LGA, which came under attack same date at about 1730hrs, by a yet to be identified armed hoodlums.

“The assailants were resisted by security Operatives present at the event and in the ensuing gun duel, three (3) Police Operatives sustained severe gunshots injuries and were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while their corpses have been deposited in the mortuary.

“Following the incidence, the attackers abducted one Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne, Commissioner of Public Utilities. Meanwhile, one (1) person has been arrested in connection with the act.”

The statement said that operatives led by the Command CP also visited Soludo to reinforce the security in his house and the Community.

The statement quoted Soludo to have thanked the commissioner and his team for the quick response.

The command also expressed the regret of Kuryas who condemned the act and commiserated with the family and friends of the officers who paid the supreme price.

He has also ordered the immediate launch of an investigation to unravel the mystery behind the incident and to bring the perpetrators of the barbaric act to book.

Kuryas, according to the report, also called on the people of Anambra to join hands in the fight against crime and criminality.
