A 39-year-old man, Akinwumi Bamidele, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing building materials worth N455,000.
The defendant, who resides at the Ojota area of Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence on Sept.16, at a hotel construction site in Ojota.
He alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to steal 25 units of 12mm iron rods valued at ₦200,000, and 25 bags of cement valued at ₦255,000.
He said that the property is owned by one Exclusive Mansion Hotel in Ojota, which is under construction.
The prosecutor, alleged that the Chief Security Officer of the hotel, one Mr. Adeleke Dada, uncovered the stealing, following a hint that some workers at the site were stealing building materials.

He told the court that the complainant consequently, visited the site and discovered that the building materials were gone.
According to the prosecution, six iron rods which were hidden near the compound, were eventually recovered.
He alleged that the case was then reported to the Ogudu police station and following further investigations, the defendant was consequently arrested.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 280, 287and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The court adjourned the case untill Oct. 14, for mention.
