Arsenal celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Tottenham survived relegation in a tense finish that sent West Ham down after 14 years in the top flight.
At Selhurst Park, Palace gave Arsenal a guard of honour before kick-off to mark their title triumph. Mikel Arteta rested nine players ahead of next week’s Champions League final against PSG, but the Gunners still edged out Conference League finalists Palace 2-1. Arsenal clinched the league earlier this week after Manchester City dropped points at Bournemouth.
The drama was at the other end of the table. Tottenham started the day two points clear of West Ham with a far better goal difference and needed only a draw against Everton to avoid relegation for the first time since 1977.
Joao Palhinha broke the tension at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just before half-time, poking home after his header came back off the post. The goal sparked wild celebrations as coach Roberto De Zerbi sprinted down the touchline.
West Ham briefly revived hope when Valentin Castellanos put them 1-0 up against Leeds midway through the second half. Jarrod Bowen and Callum Wilson later made it 3-0, but it wasn’t enough. Spurs held on for a 1-0 win, condemning West Ham to the Championship alongside Burnley and Wolves.
Relegation would have been a financial blow for Spurs, who won the Europa League last season under Ange Postecoglou.
Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola managed Manchester City for the final time after a decade that delivered six Premier League titles and a Champions League. Aston Villa beat City 2-1, with Ollie Watkins scoring twice to secure fourth place and a Champions League spot.
Liverpool drew 1-1 with Brighton as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson said farewell at Anfield, finishing fifth after last season’s title win. Chelsea lost 2-1 at Sunderland despite going down to 10 men, meaning new boss Xabi Alonso misses out on Europe in his first season.
Sunderland and Bournemouth qualified for the Europa League, while Brighton take a Conference League spot. Manchester United ended their campaign with a 3-0 win at Brighton, with Bruno Fernandes setting a new Premier League record of 21 assists in a single season.
