The Nigerian Army (NA) has warned that irresponsible use of social media is posing a serious threat to national security, urging Nigerians to use the platforms to promote peace and unity.
Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, gave the warning on Thursday at the 42nd Social Media Seminar held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The event, organised by the NA, brought together youths, bloggers, students, and other stakeholders under the theme “Promoting a Culture of Security Awareness Through the Responsible Use of Social Media.”
Special Guest of Honour, Maj.-Gen. Lukman Omoniyi, also cautioned against the spread of injurious or subversive content online, warning of its damaging impact on the security landscape, particularly in Oyo State.

He said the programme forms part of the Army’s whole-of-society approach to tackling security challenges and urged Nigerians—especially youths—to channel their creativity and energy towards national unity.
“This seminar will equip you with valuable tips to guide your online activities and help you resist actions that could endanger peace and security.
“Let us all strive to be ambassadors of unity and responsible online citizenship,” Omoniyi added.
