The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army is mourning the death of Lieutenant Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza.
Bazza died while on duty at the 2 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters for Exercise STILL WATERS III in Essien Udim Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
In an official statement released by Major Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, it was disclosed that Lieutenant Bazza was not accounted for at the Step-up Headquarters on November 11, 2023.
Despite exhaustive efforts to locate him, he remained unreachable.
Consequently, a search operation was initiated in the surrounding area, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body.
Major Danjuma expressed the Division’s deep condolences to the family of the deceased officer, acknowledging the unfortunate nature of his demise.
He urged the media to exercise caution in their reporting, discouraging narratives that might insinuate any complicity in Lieutenant Bazza’s death.
Emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the well-being of its personnel, he stressed that the organization did not take the loss of any member lightly, especially under controversial circumstances.
“While not engaging with media houses disseminating misinformation, it is crucial to highlight that there are established regimental procedures within the Nigerian Army to address such incidents,” stated Major Danjuma.
He reassured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway, promising transparency in communicating the findings to the public once the process is complete.
