The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has urged the Federal Government to take urgent action to end the rising wave of killings and violence across Nigeria, describing the attacks as unjust, inhumane, and a threat to the nation’s wellbeing.

Delivering a homily titled “Death is Not the End of Life for Believers” on Sunday at St. Augustine Pastoral Area, Waru, Abuja, in commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, Archbishop Kaigama prayed that the government would give urgent attention to the massacres of innocent Nigerians and bring perpetrators to justice.

“As Christians, we pray that the unjust and gruesome killing of our brothers and sisters in Nigeria receives high-level attention from our government, which should hold the perpetrators accountable and put an end to these incessant killings,” he said.

The Archbishop emphasized that while Christians may not take up arms to seek justice, they must call on the government to protect human life, noting that political leaders often promise such responsibility during campaigns.

Kaigama also urged believers to reflect on their personal lives and moral conduct.

“Be kind when no one is watching, forgive even when it is hard, help others selflessly, and live your faith in a way that influences your home, work, and community,” he said.

He encouraged Christians to cultivate a genuine relationship with God through prayer, reading the Bible, and living out the Beatitudes.

Praying for peace and healing, the Archbishop said, “May God heal our land and grant eternal rest to all the faithful departed, especially victims of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. May their souls rest in peace.”
