Arase, Egbetokun confirm stabilised relations between PSC and NPF

In a significant development aimed at enhancing internal security measures in Nigeria, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police, announced today the consolidation of relations between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). This announcement came as Dr. Arase led the Management team of the Commission in welcoming the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, and his team to the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
In a statement released by Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, Dr. Arase emphasized the successful stabilization of the relationship between the two institutions, highlighting their shared commitment to the nation’s internal security. Despite acknowledging occasional challenges and tensions, Dr. Arase expressed confidence in overcoming them, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation between the Commission and the Police.
Dr. Arase further urged the Police Management Team to extend full support to the Inspector General, emphasizing the necessity of adapting strategies and improving engagements to meet evolving security demands effectively. Additionally, he advised the legal teams of both institutions to collaborate closely to prevent adverse judgments against police officers, which could lead to financial repercussions for the Commission.
Responding to Dr. Arase’s remarks, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun praised the leadership of the PSC, acknowledging their positive influence on the Police Management Team. He expressed gratitude for the support, advice, and collaboration extended by Dr. Arase since assuming office, emphasizing the importance of the newfound cooperation between the Commission and the Police.
Both parties expressed a commitment to regular quarterly meetings to address any outstanding issues and foster a more robust collaboration aimed at achieving efficient policing in Nigeria.
