Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has disowned the APC’s so-called consensus deal in Imo North, saying he had no hand in picking Senator Patrick Ndubueze as the party’s anointed candidate.
In a statement from his media office, Araraume said he was never consulted, nor did he attend any meeting or negotiation that produced the announcement.
He called the move unilateral and undemocratic, arguing it did not reflect what APC stakeholders across Okigwe Zone’s six LGAs wanted.
“At no time was I part of any discussion or agreement to adopt a consensus candidate. Any such claim is false, misleading, and unacceptable,” Araraume said. “Imo North has a proud tradition of democratic engagement, and I stand firmly for a free and fair contest.”
He warned that imposing a candidate under the banner of “consensus” could widen cracks in the party and hurt its chances in the general election.
Araraume urged delegates and party members to stay calm and stick to due process as the APC headed into its senatorial primary.
He said he was ready to contest in “any primary that follows party rules and the Electoral Act.”
The APC is expected to hold its Imo North primary soon.
