Application for Internship: UniBen pharmacy graduates "stranded," beg CMD UBTH for reprieve

Despite advertising a few weeks ago some vacancies to be filled by candidates with requisite qualifications, Pharmacy graduates of the University of Benin [UniBen] have appealed to Chief Medical Director [CMD] of University of Benin Teaching Hospital [UBTH], Dr Darlington Obaseki, for a reprieve by temporarily waving two documents that are required to accompany their respective application forms.

THE CONCLAVE reports that the two documents are applicant’s statement of result and practice licence.

The gravamen of the pharmacy graduates’ complaint is that the University of Benin, as of May 1, 2025, had yet to conduct their induction ceremony after which their practice licence can be issued to them.

Specifically, the delay in conducting the induction ceremony has also caused a delay in the issuance of the practice licence, one of the critical documents that the UBTH requested candidates applying for the position of “internship for Pharmacists” to attach to their application forms.

THE CONCLAVE reports that Friday, May 2, 2025, is the deadline for the submission of application forms for the internship position for pharmacy graduates.

Reports said that the affected Uniben pharmacy graduates who made attempts to submit their application forms without the two required documents could not submit the form.

In fact, their application formswere not received from them because their practice licence was not attached.

A parent who spoke to THE CONCLAVE lamented that his son was one of the applicants who made several attempts at submission, but were denied.

According to him, “My son made an attempt to submit the application form again about 30 minutes ago, [at 9.46 am on Friday, May 2, 2015] the form was again rejected because of the practice license.”

THE CONCLAVE reports that UniBen has scheduled the induction that will produce the practice licence(s) for the institution’s pharmacy graduates for 14th of May, 2025.

The affected graduating students’ set of 2023/2024 of pharmacy department have appealed to the UBTH CMD for either a temporary waver to enable them submit their application and furnish the management with their statement of results and practice licence in the form of supplementary/additional documents or for an extension of the deadline for the submission of application until the end of May 2025 instead of May 2, 2025.

THE CONCLAVE’s WhatsApp message to UBTH Public Relations Officer,  Mr Joshua Uwaila, had yet to be responded to as of the time of publication of this report.
