APC ward chairman killed in Benue State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee Chairman in Gboko South ward, Tersoo Ahu, has been killed.

He was reportedly killed by a gang of young men in Gboko on Sunday.

Ahu and other ward officials were training party members for the APC registration and revalidation exercise billed to begin on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 when the venue was invaded by his assailants.

The assailants wielded clubs, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons with which they attacked Ahu.

In the resultant mayhem, several party faithful and shortlisted adhoc staff members sustained various degrees of injury.

A witness said that the training was ongoing at a hotel located at the GRA of Gboko when the hoodlums stormed the venue and demanded to know how they came about the selection of the adhoc staff members.

The development degenerated into a heated argument which reportedly led to open confrontation and a free for all.

Ahu was said to have been hacked to death in the deathly attack that ensued.

APC Publicity Secretary in Benue State, James Orgunga, confirmed the incident.

He said in response to inquiry on the development: “Yes, the Gboko South ward council chairman, Tersoo Ahu was killed. They were around for the training exercise for the coming registration exercise and then, some guys just came and hacked him (Ahu) down and he died. That is the information I have for now.”

He was later reported to have said that the ward chairman sustained serious injuries and later died at a public hospital in Gboko where he was rushed for medicare.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue Command, Kate Anene, said a probe had commenced.

“I can confirm the attack and killing of the APC ward chairman in Gboko. Our men rushed to the scene but the suspects fled.

“However, we have identified them and very soon we shall pick them up.”
