The All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept the polls in the local government election held in Yobe State on Saturday.
The ruling party in the state, according to the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission won the 17 local chairmen seats and the total 178 ward councilorship positions.
Announcing the results of the elections on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital, the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YBSIEC), Dr Mamman Mohammed disclosed that it was only APC that fielded candidates for all the position at both the chairmanship and councilorship levels with the six other parties contesting picking seats to contest for.
He lamented that in the chairmanship elections, there was no opposition or candidates from other political parties contesting in the polls.
“It’s only the APC that fielded candidates for the chairmanship and councillors,” he said, adding that the electorate voted for the party.
He said this made APC to be returned unopposed in all the chairmanship elections in the 17 local government areas of the state.
He said the party equally swept all the councilor seats on offer as they won massively in few ones that were contested by the other parties during the elections.
