[Press Release] The All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to address the recent announcement by Mr. Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), regarding his intention to appeal the verdict of the Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal following the November 16 governorship election, which was decisively won by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their overwhelming support and trust in Governor Aiyedatiwa, who secured a clear victory with a total of 366,781 votes against Mr. Ajayi’s 117,845. This significant margin is a testament to the confidence the electorate has in our party and the policies we represent.
We acknowledge the right of the PDP to seek judicial redress; however, it is imperative to emphasize that the election was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. Both local and international observers have attested to the integrity of the electoral process, confirming that it reflected the true will of the people of Ondo State. The assertion by Mr. Ajayi that the election results constitute a “miscarriage of democracy” is not only unfounded but also undermines the hard work and commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies involved in ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
The APC stands firmly behind the results declared by INEC. We believe that the tribunal’s verdict will uphold the integrity of the election and reinforce the democratic principles that our party advocates. It is our conviction that any appeal by the PDP will ultimately fail in the appellate court, as the evidence overwhelmingly supports the legitimacy of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s victory.
We urge the PDP and its supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people. Rather than resorting to legal battles, we encourage them to engage in constructive dialogue and focus on the development of Ondo State, which is what the people truly desire.
In conclusion, the APC remains committed to delivering on our promises to the citizens of Ondo State. We will continue to work diligently to ensure that the aspirations of our people are met and that the progress we have made is sustained.
