A Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and founder of the Pastor Reuben Initiative for Good Leadership and Accountability (PRIFGLA), Pastor Reuben Wilson has accused the party’s national leadership of fueling the ongoing crisis in Bayelsa State chapter.
Speaking at a solidarity walk and rally in Yenagoa on Saturday, organised by PRIFGLA and The Asiwaju Group (TAG) to honour President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wilson criticised the national leadership for decisions that have deepened internal divisions and hindered the party’s progress in the state.
Wilson, who served as the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area coordinator during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections, claimed the APC won both polls but was unjustly denied victory.
“We secured those elections, but our mandate was stolen,” he said. “Bayelsa APC members are now treated as second-class citizens.”
He called on the APC national chairman to address the actions of individuals undermining party unity, warning that the national leadership’s inaction is the primary cause of the crisis.
“If the national leadership can resolve conflicts in other states, why is Bayelsa an exception?” Wilson asked. “They must caution those dividing our party, or they are complicit in our struggles.”
Despite these challenges, Wilson praised the resilience of Bayelsa APC members for their unwavering loyalty despite the party’s lack of control over the state government.
He also commended the state chairman and other leaders for their efforts in sustaining party support.
The rally also celebrated President Tinubu’s contributions to Bayelsa and the Niger Delta, with Wilson highlighting key appointments of Bayelsan into position of trust.
In their separate remarks, Hon Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, Managing Director of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Hon. Preye Oseke, a FERMA director, praised Tinubu’s policies, citing projects like the funding for phase two of the Nembe-Brass road as evidence of his commitment to the region.
They urged Bayelsans to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Mr. Eseimokumo Soko, Director General of PRIFGLA, described the event as a celebration of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasizing its focus on economic reforms, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and national integration.
“This agenda is not just a promise; it is a mission for inclusive development and a better future for all,” Soko said.
