The Edo APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has promised to invest in the Edo state civil service by bringing in more hands to enable government deliver on its obligations to the greater number of the citizenry.
Addressing the workforce of the state, during a meeting with Edo workers under the aegis of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday in Benin city, he described members of both associations as well informed and the engine room of any government.
He said, “I believe that in making Edo move forward, government must invest in its workforce, we need to bring more people into the civil service and appreciated some retired workers for compiling some of his achievements when he was in government.”
According to Pastor Ize-Iyamu,
“The greatest problem we face as a people isn’t the issue of Insecurity, deficiency in Infrastructural development or Agriculture but the biggest problem is leadership and if we refuse to change the current leadership of our state, many of us will continue to lament.”
Recalling his achievements as Chief of Staff and Secretary to Edo state Government, which earned him several awards from the NLC and TUC, Pastor Ize-Iyamu said, he clearly understood the challenges facing Edo workers and told them of his developmental plan called the SIMPLE Agenda to ameliorate these challenges.
He regretted that while Edo Schools did not have teachers.
“The numbers of SSAs and SAs appointed under this Government is more than the numbers of teachers in the state,” he said.
He recalled that, “During our campaign tour, we discovered that most of our schools only have two teachers, which is abysmally poor, under an Obaseki that prides itself with EdoBEST program, adding that all, ” critical sectors in the state have all been marred by inadequate manpower”.
The APC candidate assured the workers that, “I am willing, accessible, transparent, committed and have respect for workers, therefore, I am committed to institutionalizing a better civil service, improve the welfare of workers, engage them in more training home and abroad to develop their skills.”
On his part, the Chairman of the NLC, Edo state chapter, Comrade Sunny Osayande, thanked the APC Candidate for visiting them with his developmental agenda, intended to reposition the state.
