The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the excessive involvement of non-state actors in the culmination of this year’s Osun Osogbo festival, which tragically led to the death of three individuals.

Investigating the circumstances surrounding these deaths, it was disclosed that a clash between two rival cult groups allegedly associated with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration escalated into a violent confrontation.

Additionally, during the festival’s grand finale at Osun River, two individuals lost their lives due to drowning, as reported by a reliable source linked to the event.

Commenting on this series of unfortunate incidents, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the state chairman of APC, expressed his dismay through a statement released by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo.

Lawal emphasized the absence of an official statement from the Governor Adeleke-led administration regarding these distressing occurrences.

He pointed out that this lack of response was disconcerting, given that the administration under Adeleke’s leadership had shown a propensity for violence and association with armed individuals on the police’s Wanted List.

Lawal highlighted the administration’s inability to condemn the actions of these violent elements, who were allegedly involved in rigging elections for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates, including Adeleke himself.

He called upon the police and other relevant security agencies to launch an investigation into the deaths that transpired during the Osun Osogbo festival’s conclusion.

Lawal stressed that the people of the state deserved an explanation from the Adeleke-led administration for its silence and lack of response to these tragic incidents that claimed five lives.

Read him, “The current situation, characterized by avoidable deaths caused by political hoodlums, is unprecedented and deeply troubling. Under Governor Adeleke’s administration, there is an alarming pattern of sorrow, tears, and blood caused by the actions of their violent thugs.”

He also highlighted that such disastrous events were not a feature of the immediate past administration led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
