The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Zadna Dantani, has formally withdrawn from the race ahead of the forthcoming area council elections.
Dantani announced his withdrawal via a letter dated February 18, 2026, and addressed to the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
He said he decided to step down from the contest after what he described as due consideration and wide consultations with his family and other relevant stakeholders.
The PDP candidate, who is from Gosa village along Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stated that his withdrawal from the AMAC chairmanship election scheduled for Saturday, February 21, was entirely voluntary.
Dantani’s letter read: “I write to respectfully inform you that I, Hon. Zadna Dantani of Gosa Village along Airport Road FCT Abuja, a member and the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have decided to voluntarily withdraw from contesting for the Chairmanship position of Abuja Municipal Area Council, in the forthcoming Area Council Elections which is scheduled to hold on 21st February, 2026, after due consideration and thorough consultation with my Family and other relevant stakeholders.

“I wish to state unequivocally that this decision to withdraw my candidature is borne out of my own freewill volition.

Dantani’s withdrawal from the race comes less than 24 hours after the PDP Chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, stepped down for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Musa.
