Angry youths protest blackout in Ife North LG, call for Gov Adeleke’s intervention

Youths from Ipetumodu, Edunabon, Moro, Yakooyo, Asipa and Akinlalu communities in Ife North Local Government area of Osun State have trooped out in protest to the undertaking office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, (IBEDC) to protest poor and irregular power supply, accompanied by outrageous bills in the Community.

According to the Acting Youth President, Babalola Taiwo, while speaking with journalists on Friday, “we don’t know the offence we have committed before the IBEDC that deserves epileptic electricity supply to the area.”

The youth in their hundreds stormed the office of the company about 7 am. to protest what they called power outage in some parts of the community in the last few months.

The youth President said, “it took IBEDC in Ife North a year with help of the community before the restoration of the electricity back into the LG in the year 2022 due to the faulty transformer at power line.

“Another unfortunate incident resurfaced since three months ago, where just an hour supply were made in a week, various meetings were held with the management without any result.

“The respond wasn’t go down well with us which forced us to chased the staff of IBEDC on duty out of the office and we warned them not to report to that office again until 8hrs electricity supply is made available in Ife North while we mandated every residents not to pay more than #1000 on the bill for the month of March even April 2023.

” The protest today is just a preamble if the electricity company remain adamant in attending to our plight.”

The leader of the youths used the medium to appeal to the governor of the state, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke and the newly elected member of the state House of Assembly, Hon Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi to urgently come to the aid of the residents of the area saying the entire communities in Ife North are completely in darkness.
