The Amotekun Corps in Osun State has condemned the report by an online medium on Friday that members of the Corps have been nabbed by the Police in Ile-Ife for theft.

This condemnation was made by the Director General of the Corps in the state, Comrade Amitolu Shittu in a statement issued by the media team of the Corps and made available to The Conclave in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the statement, “Amotekun Osun has been a reputable security outfit since Governor Adegboyega Oyetola appointed a renowned Rights Activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, as its Director General with numerous achievements it has recorded which have brought Osun into the world map, within the shortest period.

“However, it is natural that whenever you are fighting corruption, at any level of governance, corruption is bound to fight back. Since those who are into illegal mining have used every available means to bring Amotekun leadership to their side, but have always met the brick wall, we knew they were up to something.

“It is on record that the same Amotekun corps in the state has arrested hundreds of illegal miners both local and expatriates without compromising.

“It is an indisputable fact that Illegal miners, like many other syndicates, are very powerful people who can go to any length to get rid of whoever that stands on their ways and this is what is now playing out.

“It is noteworthy that Amotekun adhoc staff are currently policing no fewer than eleven illegal mining sites in Osun and there is no record of compromise since, then why was it that this is coming from such quarter at the moment?”, the statement said.

The statement however described Ile-Ife online story as a failed attempt to tarnish the good image of Amotekun Corps in Osun state because the people of the state and lovers of truth and justice would know the futility of such an exercise.

“Since the Amotekun guy, who was indicted by a gold thief, is currently in the police custody in Ile-Ife, we demand that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Undie Adie, used his good office to launch thorough investigation, to get to the root of this, in the spirit of fairness and justice.

“The image of Amotekun in Osun state remains untainted while the reputable state owned security outfit would not compromise, no matter the level of intimidation and conspiracy” the statement added.
