Amnesty International seeks justice for Sylvester Oromoni

Amnesty International has expressed concerned about the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, Lagos state, who was allegedly physically abused in the school.

The international human rights group said Sylvester Oromoni died from complications resulting from the abuse.

The group called on the Lagos state government to promptly, thoroughly and impartially investigate the death of Sylvester Oromoni and ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted and punished.

“Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr), a Junior Secondary School two pupil at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, would have clocked at 12 today. But he was allegedly physically abused in the school. He died 3 December 2021, from complications of the abuse.

“14-year old Karen-Happuch Aondodoo Akpagher, a student of Premier Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, was allegedly raped in her school. She died from complications resulting from the rape a few days later on 22 June 2021.

“Nuhu Yahaya — 13-year-old Junior Secondary School II student of the Federal Government College Kwali, Abuja, was allegedly beaten to death by his teacher over failure of the student to do his assignment. He died Monday, August 9, 2021,” Amnesty International said.
