Immediate past Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Chibike Rotimi Amaechi has commiserated with the Nelson family, the government and people of Lagos State, All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians at large on the passing of Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson.

Kemi Nelson’s death was announced on Sunday. She lost a titanic battle against cancer. She was aged 66.

Amaechi, in a condolence message, described the late Mrs Nelson as a dependable pillar who stood to be counted when it mattered.

He described her death as “a huge loss to the nation.”

The APC chieftain noted that the late Mrs Nelson was an ideal woman, adding that she consistently stood firmly to offer useful guidance to the party and could sacrifice anything in the interest of the party.

According to him, those were cutting edge virtues with which she defined her socio-economic, cultural and political interactions.

Amaechi stated: “Mrs Nelson was an indomitable amazon, who stood to be counted when it mattered. At a time when it was a difficult task for women to aspire to be in elective office or to play active role in political leadership, Mrs. Nelson was among the few Nigerian women who ventured into active politics with uniqueness in integrity, loyalty, finesse and dignity.

“She was a very dogged and irrepressible person, who had a dream and mission. She proved her mettle and contributed profoundly to the building of a political party we all could be proud of today. We shall miss her resourcefulness and robust contributions. She was a great friend I will ever hold her in high esteem.

“We shall miss her passion for women, youth development and capacity building. Her meritorious contributions to the NSITF when she was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, a position she held until May 2021, will undoubtedly make posterity to judge her kindly in distinguished service to Nigeria. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”

The former APC presidential aspirant also urged the bereaved family, the government and people of Lagos State, the ruling APC to take solace in the fact that the late Mrs Nelson lived an “eventful and accomplished life worthy of emulation.”

He further urged the state government to immortalise her in “recognition of her contribution to the state’s growth.”
