Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asked an Abuja Federal High Court to compel suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to delete a satirical apology posted on her social media pages.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had published a satirical apology to Akpabio on her official Facebook page —together with a short video to boot on April 27.

Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed in the post that she was sorry for the “crime of maintaining dignity and self-respect”.

The lawmaker’s satirical apology was despite an order by Justice Binta Nyako, restraining both parties from making public comments about a case of defamation filed by the Senate President, pending the determination of the suit.

Akpabio’s legal team, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), argued before the court that the social media post constituted a breach of the judge’s directive.

The Senate President’s lawyers, therefore, asked the court to compel the suspended senator to delete the post from all her social media platforms.

They also want the court to mandate Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a written apology in at least two national dailies and file an affidavit confirming compliance.

It would be recalled that the conflict between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan started after an altercation in the chamber over seating arrangements.

The Kogi senator was suspended for six months shortly after accusing the Senate President of sexual harassment.
