INEC says all 22 registered political parties have submitted their membership registers, meeting the requirements of the Electoral Act 2026.
The commission confirmed Friday that submissions were completed on May 8, two days before the extended May 10 deadline.
INEC granted the extension after parties raised concerns at a March 24 meeting. The original April 21 deadline was shifted to May 10 to give parties time to compile registers and hold primaries.
Parties are scheduled to conduct primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026. Under the law, membership registers must be submitted at least 21 days before a party’s primary.
INEC said the registers will now undergo verification as required by law.
“The submission followed the extension granted by the Commission after political parties raised concerns during a meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 2026,” the statement said.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections in 2027.
