General Charles Airhiavbere, on Monday assured his supporters across Edo state that he was the best there was to fly the flag of All Progressives Congress, APC, if the party must win the September 21 State Governorship Elections.
Speaking while submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms to become the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) he said, “..We are going to work tirelessly to make sure that APC will present only the best, and I can assure you that the best is (standing) before you. I am the one.”
Airhiavbere who encapsulated and reiterated his confident vision for the State with the slogan, ‘GC Oghi soegbe’ – Emilokan, signifying his determination to bring positive change and progress to Edo State, emphasized the strategic importance of Edo South in the upcoming elections.
“Edo South is where the battleground is. Why? Because Edo South voted…in protest. PDP, where the governor is from, was far third or far second, depending on the situation. The people voted their conscience.” He pointed out that the current Senator from Edo South, did not print a poster, banner or conduct press conferences about his aspiration but still won.
The immediate past Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC asserted, “I have the capacity to collapse structures in the Edo PDP to add to what we have in the APC; because I have always preached that Edo state should come to the centre. We should not be in opposition. We need to key in.”
General Airhiavbere criticized the governance style of the current PDP administration in the state, arguing, “We are not supposed to have a governor who makes signboards and put on the street saying, ‘This road belongs to the Federal government’.
He highlighted the importance of an Edo APC governor who can actively engage in advocacy for the state’s interests at the federal level.
Speaking to the party leadership and membership, Airhiavbere rallied them saying, “Let’s try and get it right. I can assure you that you will all be in Edo state to witness the inauguration of Major-general Charles Ehigie Airhiavbere rtd, mni as the Governor of Edo state.”
Meanwhile General Airhiavbere’s declaration has set the stage for a heated Edo APC primary election on February 17, 2024, positioning him as a formidable contender for the governorship seat, while promising a transformative leadership with a PIE programme that resonates with the aspirations of Edo State and it’s people.
