Sylvester Abiodun, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12, has sought the cooperation of citizens to enhance community policing in the zone.

Abiodun who made the appeal when he spoke with newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi, said that the support of citizens would lead to a crime free society.

“Let the critical stakeholder know that they need to partner with the police by participating in policing the society,” he added.

According to him, community policing system allows citizens to play major role in policing, which will help in reducing the crime rate in the society.

“Community policing will require the police involving the community in deciding policing priorities and also to promote a crime free society.

“Citizens should not look at police as enemies but friends, and have confidence and trust in the police,” he said.

Abiodun urged all police officers to be professional, dedicated and disciplined in the discharge of their duties, as well as dominate the security space to ensure that there is no room for criminality.

Abiodun who assumed duty as AIG Zone 12, comprised of Bauchi and Gombe states police commands, cautioned personnel against any form of misconduct, saying anyone found wanting will be dealt with. (NAN)
