The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Police Headquarters in Yenagoa, AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola, has emphasized the need for a strong police-media partnership to enhance effective policing.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the leadership of United Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Bayelsa State Council, on Thursday in Yenagoa, AIG Johnson Oluwole said the Police needed the Media in the fight against crime and criminality.
AIG Adenola thanked the UCC delegation, praising thei leadership and outlining the Inspector General of Police’s inclusive policing strategy, which prioritizes media collaboration.
“The link between journalists and police is vital for effective law enforcement,” he said, encouraging direct engagement with departmental heads beyond the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
Detailing Zone 16’s reforms, Adenola highlighted the X Squad’s efforts to monitor officers’ conduct to ensure professionalism and accountability.
He urged journalists to verify facts before publishing to strengthen policing and public safety.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of United Correspondents Chapel, (UCC) Amgbare Ekaunkumo, expressed delight at the warm reception accorded the journalists, noting that the AIG’s willingness to grant the visit underscored the cordial working relationship between the police command and journalists.

He lauded AIG Adenola on his appointment, commending his professionalism and integrity.
“Your reform-focused policies suit you to lead Zone 16,” he said, thanking the Inspector-General for the appointment.
He also praised Zonal PPRO SP Gunn Emonena for fostering a collaborative media relationship.
Amgbare stressed the UCC’s dedication to accurate reporting, noting that security is a shared responsibility.
“Both journalists and police rely on information to serve society,” he said.
