Amnesty International (AI) Nigeria has expressed concerned over the sharp increase in attacks and reprisals in Plateau state.
The international human rights group in a statement on Wednesday called on Nigerian authorities to immediately put a stop to the escalating conflict.
The group said it received disturbing report of the killing of 33 villagers and burning of 3 houses in Yelwan-Zangam community, Jos North Local Government Area of the State.
According to the group, the current situation in Plateau state has created an atmosphere of fear, with villagers fleeing their homes, students evacuated from university campus and farmers unable to access their farmland.
The group is also calling for an impartial and independent investigation to be carried out. It added that the Nigerian authorities have an obligation under national and international law to bring the perpetrators to justice.
