He said that the Present Administration is desirous of delivering vibrant and robust Government Policies to reposition and motivate public servants as well as ensure effective and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.

Abubakar said that the award ceremony was special not only to reward excellence but also to galvanize all the staff towards high productivity.

He said that it was geared towards achieving the Diversification Policy of President Muhammadu Buhari in the Agricultural sector.

The minister said that the agricultural sector is expected to make significant contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the non-oil sector.

He said this could not be achieved without the contributions of selfless, committed, innovative and disciplined public servants who have the statutory responsibility of formulation and implementation of the ministry’s policies and programmes.

Abubakar said the ministry, in its bid to reposition the agricultural sector, had developed the Green Alternative through the Agriculture Promotion Policy.

He said the Green Alternative was to ensure wealth creation, poverty reduction, employment generation for the teeming youths and women to boost the national GDP.

Abubakar reaffirmed that the ministry is committed to capacity development and has consciously allocated time and resources to training through regular in-house workshops and external sessions.

The minister said this is to improve the decision making of staff as well as customer service standard.
In his address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, said that the programme was part of the extant tradition of the ministry.

He said that the programme has also become an annual event, aimed at motivating and incentivising staff for better performance.

He said that the programme is based on the provisions of the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan 2021 – 2025 (FCSSIP25).

Umakhihe said that the ministry had identified and selected officers who had demonstrated outstanding and sterling performances across salary Grade Levels during the year under review.

Speaking, the Director, Human Resource Management, Mrs Oluwatoyin Alade, urged staff members not to rest on their oars, saying with the introduction of the New Performance Management System, the process would be more completive.

Alade also appealed to staff to sustain the tempo to enhance the score card of the Ministry.

The awardees of the ministerial award include; Dr Yakubu Adam, Director, Procurement, Mr Frank Kudla, Director, Extension Services, Dr Imeh Umoh, Director, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Mr Ezeaja Ikemefuna, Assistant Director, Information, among others. (NAN)
