Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has felicitated the Emperor of Japan, Hironomiya Naruhito, who clocked 63 years on February 23, 2023.
The Minister, who eulogised Hironomiya for exemplifying the best of Japanese spirit, said since ascending the throne on 1st May, 2019, the Emperor had led Japan with wisdom, grace and compassion.
“His unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people and his tireless efforts to promote peace and prosperity in the world have earned him the admiration and respect of people around the globe.
“Through the centuries, Japan has been a shining example of the power of culture and tradition to inspire and transform societies.
“Japan has demonstrated an unparalleled ability to fuse the old and new, the traditional and modern, the familiar and the exotic,” said Prince Agba, in his opening remarks at the 63rd birthday reception, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Tuesday.

The Minister said it was heart-warming to note that Nigeria would also be celebrating her 63rd independence in October this year.
“Let me on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria acknowledge and appreciate the continuous support and goodwill from the Japanese government to Nigeria.
“It is essential to note that we have had a long-standing cooperation that is based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. I commend the commitment and efforts of the Japanese Government in this regard,” he said.

Agba traced the relationship between Nigeria and Japan to 1960 when Nigeria got her independence and entered into diplomatic bond with the Asian country with regular visits to each other to strengthen economic ties.
“The trade balance between our countries is very robust, with Japanese cars everywhere in Nigeria and their purchase of Nigeria’s crude oil.
“Additionally, Japan and Nigeria have looked into developing further trade ties by creating organizations such as the Japan-Nigeria Business Facilitation Council, which is aimed at increasing the volume of trade between our countries.
“Since acceding the throne on 1st May, 2019, His Majesty the Emperor of Japan has led Japan with wisdom, grace and compassion, exemplifying the very best of the Japanese spirit. His unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people and his tireless efforts to promote peace and prosperity in the world have earned him the admiration and respect of people around the globe.
“Through the centuries, Japan has been a shining example of the power of culture and tradition to inspire and transform ⁷societies. Japan has demonstrated an unparalleled ability to fuse the old and new, the traditional and modern, the familiar and the exotic.
“Today, Japan is not only a world leader in technology and innovation, but also a vibrant hub of culture, art, and creativity. It is a place where ancient tradition and cutting-edge trends co-exist, where the past and future converge, and where the impossible literally becomes possible.
*As we celebrate the Emperor of Japan today, we are reminded of the challenges that continue to face our world. From the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic to the threat of climate change and social unrest, we must remain vigilant and work together to build a more resilient and sustainable future.

“As we may all be aware, Nigeria is in the middle of a political transition hav€ire just successfully concluded the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections. While witnessing some changes, we assure ìĵyou that the deep and friendly ties between Nigeria and Japan will not change. We will continue to work together to enhance the development of our bilateral relationship, with respect for each other’s change,” the Minister asserted.,

The Minister disclosed that Nigeria was looking up to Japan as a source of inspiration and hope at a time when the world is facing unprecedented challenges.
According to Agba, through its resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering spirit, Japan has shown that even in the face of adversity, it is possible to build a better, more sustainable future.
“As we create a world that is more just, more peaceful and more prosperous for all, the bond between Japan and Nigeria continues to flourish and grow stronger with each passing year.
“Permit me to draw inspiration from His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan new year’s statement wherein he said, and I quote: ‘for I understand there are many difficulties, but I pray people will be able to keep supporting each other to overcome adverse situations. I wish for the new year to be one in which people in Japan and the rest of the world can walk with hope.
“On this note, I pray that His Majesty continue to enjoy good health and blessings as he continues to lead Japan on the path of prosperity. As we leave this ceremony and return to our respective activities, let us carry with us the spirit of Japan and the enduring legacy of the Emperor’s reign.
