Immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, has commiserated with Edo people on the tragedy that hit Uzairue market in Jattu, which happened on Monday, leaving fatalities and injuries in its trail.

Agba, who described the event leading to the tragedy as an act of God, said he was pained to hear that many lives were lost and that many other persons sustained injuries.

According to him: “The victims of the tragic collapse of trees due to rainstorm were our kindred who were in the market to transact businesses and eke a living to take care of themselves and their respective families. They were contributing their quota to the economic development of our community through trading.

“It was unfortunate that they were caught up in the downpour that was accompanied by a raging storm. They did not commit any wrong by seeking refuge under some secured stalls on which the trees that the rainstorm uprooted fell, injuring and killing many of them.

“It was an act of God for which humanity must obligatorily feel pained and diminished. I commiserate with the immediate families of those who died and extend my best wishes to the injured for speedy recovery. I pray that the Almighty God will grant the dead a peaceful repose of their souls.

“I pray that such a tragedy will not recur even as I urge the Etsako West Local Government authorities to draw significant lessons from the tragic incident and take step to remove fixtures that pose real threat to life and property in and around the market premises.”
