Immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba has commended the management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) in Edo State for embarking on a simulation exercise preparatory to public health emergencies.

Agba in a address at the simulation exercise hosted by the Institute of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever and Emerging Pathogen Control and Research in ISTH, Uzanu Annex, on Tuesday, stated that, “this simulation exercise is proof of the hospital’s commitment to strengthening its response capabilities to public health emergencies.”
He said the Simulation Test Exercise was important as it aimed to assess and enhance the functional capacity of Irrua Specialist Hospital, Uzanu Annex.
Agba stated that “This event is a testament to our commitment to preparedness and efficiency in responding to health emergencies, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to all.
“As the ISTH performs the simulation exercise hosted by the Institute of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever and Emerging Pathogen Control and Research, we gather to address a critical aspect of our collective well-being in preparedness against viral hemorrhagic fevers and emerging pathogens.
“We are all aware that the world has witnessed devastating outbreaks in recent years, highlighting the need for proactive measures and collaborative efforts. This simulation exercise is proof of the hospital’s commitment to strengthening its response capabilities to public health emergencies.”
He expressed his deep appreciation for the availability of this hospital facility, not only for the people of Uzanu but also for the neighbouring towns and villages in the Weppa, Wanno, Okpekpe clans, the three Ibie Clans and beyond.
“This facility is a beacon of hope and a crucial asset for the region, providing lifesaving medical services to those in need. Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, and the existence of Irrua Specialist Hospital, Uzanu Annex, reinforces our dedication to this cause.
“This hospital stands out as a well-equipped medical centre, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment services that are not commonly found in many healthcare facilities. The laboratory here goes beyond basic testing for malaria and bacterial infections.
“It is equipped with state[1]of-the-art machines capable of analyzing critical functions such as liver and kidney health, enabling accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. This level of sophistication in medical diagnostics is indeed a rare privilege for any community, and we must take full advantage of it,” he said.
He continued: “I am pleased to note that the hospital is equipped with 80 beds and two state[1]of-the-art theatres, further enhancing its capacity to provide excellent healthcare services.
“I urge the people of Uzanu and the surrounding communities to take advantage of this golden opportunity, and, with a dedicated team of medical professionals working tirelessly to deliver exceptional healthcare services, residents can now receive quality medical attention closer to home.
“Taking advantage of this facility will not only improve overall health but also contribute to increasing life expectancy within our communities. Good health is the foundation of a prosperous society, and this hospital serves as a pillar supporting our collective well-being.”
Agba commended the effort of the Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Hospital, Professor Reuben Agbons Eifediyi, for his unwavering determination and commitment to making Irrua Specialist Hospital, Uzanu Annex, fully functional.
He said: “Your leadership and dedication have played a vital role in ensuring that this facility operates optimally to serve the needs of the people. We recognize your efforts and sincerely thank you for your vision in making quality healthcare more accessible.”
