Libyan authorities are doing all they can to frustrate the Super Eagles ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday four encounter.
The players and their officials, according to the media officer of the team, Promise Efoghe, were held hostage at the Al Abaq Airport on Sunday.
The chartered aircraft conveying the contingent was scheduled to land in Benghazi, which is 10 kilometres from Benina, where the Super Eagles will slug it out with the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday.
According to Efoghe, the aircraft was diverted to another destination, which is more than two hours’ drive from Benghazi.
Libyan players complained of poor treatment on their arrival in Nigeria last week for the AFCON 2025 qualifying matchday three.
The North Africans lost the keenly contested encounter 1-0 with Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, scoring the winning goal for the Super Eagles four minutes from time. [Prompt News]
