AfBA condemns discrimination of African blacks in evaluation of war victims in Ukraine

The African Bar Association (AFBA), the umbrella body of all Bar Associations in the 54 countries of African , has condemned what it described as racial approach to the evacuation of war victims in Ukraine and other countries.

The condembatikn was contained in a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday by the director of Strategic Communication, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq.,

The statement quoted the President of the AfBA, Hannibal Uwaifo to have said: “The African Bar Association (AfBA) is appalled by the information at our disposal and the verified videos trending online about the deliberate attempt by the security apparati in Ukraine and associated countries to deny some Africans and black peoples from the humanitarian evacuation process put in place to help those eligible to exit the Ukraine and associated countries in view of the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

“The African Bar Association (AfBA) calls on all countries of interest in the evacuation of the war victims in Ukraine and associated countries to give equal access and opportunities to all and sundry to exit the war zones in the Russia-Ukrain War in accordance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.

“The African Bar Association states that Humanitarian Law is so called because it pertains to all and sundry of the world heritageSacz, irrespective of age, tribe, creed or religion.The Africa Bar Association (AfBA) demands the immediate halt to the racial approach to the evacuation of war victims in the above referenced war zones, as this does not conform with the tenets and spirits of International Law and International Conventions.

“The AFBA calls on parties to this avoidable war to have a truce and armistice in view of the huge humanitarian crisis that is being spurned in Eastern Europe due to the referenced war and AFBA restates its call for parties in the Ukraine- Russia War to observe all letters and spirits of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law, during this war that could have been avoided if wise counsel prevailed.”
