Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has said he once asked God to take his life during a severe sickle cell crisis at age 20, describing it as the worst episode he has experienced.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Angela Yee, the singer said living with sickle cell disorder often draws reactions of fear or pity from people who act as though he may not survive long.
He recalled the 20-year-old crisis as the most painful moment of his life, saying the pain became so intense that he told God to end his life. He added that even his mother, who usually encouraged him, could not object that night.
Despite the experience, Gold said he is grateful for the strength to keep fighting the illness.
