Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has dismissed the viability of the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, predicting that it will collapse within three months due to internal power struggles.

Sheriff made the statement during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday. He argued that the coalition, made up of prominent opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, is bound to implode over conflicting presidential ambitions.
“This ADC you’re talking about, I can tell you for free—it will die down in three months,” Sheriff said.
“All of them are presidential materials, but only one person can fly the flag.
“That’s where the problem starts.”
He specifically claimed that Obi is preparing to leave the coalition and rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in pursuit of his 2027 presidential ambition.
“Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi will return to the PDP and contest as their presidential candidate,” he stated.
Sheriff also questioned the political strength of the coalition members, asking, “Which states do they control?”
Despite the criticism, the ADC has clarified its position on zoning, stating that the party is focused on building a strong, grassroots political structure rather than engaging in regional power rotation debates.
The party emphasized unity and inclusivity as key pillars ahead of the 2027 elections.
