The Youths wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has tasked youths on the need to harness tourism for economic growth.
Balarabe Rufai, National Youths Leader of the of the party, made the call in Kagoro, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Rufai was speaking at the maiden mountain climbing contest in Southern Kaduna as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
The competition was organised by the ADC in collaboration with a group called Gworok Play House.
Presenting prizes to the winners, Rufai stated that the initiative was aimed at exposing young people to the economic opportunities in tourism.
According to him, the tourism sector could generate millions of jobs if fully harnessed.
“Our youths are the greatest assets we have as a nation and so we are doing this to expose them to the potentialities in tourism.
“Tourism alone, if properly utilised, has the potentials to generate five to 10 millions jobs for youths,” he added Rufai pledged the party’s continued support for programs that promote peace and economic growth.

Founding members of Gworok Play House, James Iya and Gima Iya, explained that the platform was created to inform, entertain, and conscientize people.
They added that Kagoro was richly endowed with both human and material resources.
They reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the peace and development of Kagoro and beyond.
One of the winners, Sunday James, captain of the Kagoro Athletes Association, expressed gratitude to the organisers and appealed for more financial support to help local athletes reach their full potential.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that event featured athletes racing up and down the famous Kagoro hills.
Winners in the three competition categories received cash prizes of ₦20,000, ₦15,000, and ₦10,000, respectively while all other participants received a ₦2,000 consolation prize.
The categories included males aged 1–34, males aged 35 and above, and females of all ages.
