The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it has received a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dated 18th April 2023, detailing alleged improprieties committed by Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) during the recently concluded supplementary elections.

INEC had called on the Police to investigate and possibly prosecute the REC for his actions.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has directed an investigative team to work in collaboration with the INEC to expedite action on the contents of the letter.

The Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has confirmed this development.

The Inspector-General of Police has expressed the NPF’s commitment to uphold democratic values and has assured Nigerians and the international community that the Police will leave no stone unturned in unraveling the remote causes of the unwholesome conduct of the REC.

⁸Furthermore, the Police will ensure that all persons fingered in the course of investigations are brought to book.

“The actions of the Police demonstrate a commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process. It is hoped that the investigations will be conducted in a thorough and impartial manner and that the findings will contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.”
