Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, has promised to be steadfast and committed to issues bothering Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) members towards satisfactory career growth and a rancor-free National Assembly.
Tambawal, in his goodwill message delivered, at the opening ceremony of PASAN Week 2022, reiterated that adequate attention would be given to the welfare of the National Assembly staff members.
He appealed to all staff members to support the legislators to enable them to achieve their aspirations for the Nigerian people.
He said the role of labour, unions, and the quest for a credible legislative process in Nigeria could not be overemphasized, taking into consideration our struggles and sacrifices to uplift the National Assembly at all times.
The Acting Clerk took the opportunity of the occasion to pay tributes to founding members and current leadership of PASAN for the peace that had continued to prevail in the National Assembly despite the working challenges faced by union.
“I feel highly delighted to be part of the Opening Ceremony of our great Union, PASAN. This is my first public engagement since I was appointed as acting Clerk to the National Assembly.
“Of great interest, for this year’s PASAN WEEK is the Theme: “Labour, Unionism, and Industrial Harmony in the National Assembly”. This theme is not only timely but apt and reflects the happenings and developments in the National Assembly which call on all PASAN members to join hands towards building a credible workforce for the development of our dear country.
“The role of labour, unionism, and the quest for a credible legislative process in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, taking into consideration our struggles and sacrifices to uplift the National Assembly at all times.
“Let me take this opportunity to pay tribute to our founding members and current leadership of our great Union for the peace that has continued to prevail in the National Assembly despite the working challenges faced by PASAN.
“I promise to be steadfast and committed to issues bothering PASAN Members towards satisfactory career growth and a rancor-free National Assembly.
“The Chairman and entire Members of PASAN, I wish to reiterate that as an ardent advocate of Staff welfare, I am assuring you of my commitment and adequate attention to the welfare of the National Assembly Staff by the will and grace of God the Almighty
“My special appeal to all our Staff is to support our Principals i.e., the Legislators to enable them to achieve their aspirations for the Nigerian people. This is because it takes two to tango. Let’s support and contribute to their success as their success is ours and our success is theirs. This support should also be extended to the National Assembly Service Commission for obvious reasons.
“There is also the need for support to all critical stakeholders in the legislative business of our dear Nation. Let me assure you that I will operate an open-door policy and hope that this will be reciprocated with a high sense of responsibility in tabling issues concerning Staff.
“I promise to ensure that no PASAN member is unnecessarily discriminated against or made to suffer injustice in our quest to make working in the National Assembly the best in Nigeria.
“Let’s in the interest of career development, better welfare for our Staff, peace, order and good governance of our dear country joins hands to move the National Assembly to an enviable height.
“I therefore, acknowledge the effort of PASAN leadership and the Organisers of the PASAN WEEK. Indeed, the burden of leadership is not easy.
“Congratulations, I wish you a happy and a successful PASAN WEEK,” Tambawal said.
