A retired Director of National Youth Service Corps, and head of Centre for Child Care and Youth Development Nigeria Abuja, Prof John Abhuere had appealed to the Federal government to release detained IPoB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a Facebook post, Abhuere said, “It is not the first, second third, or even the fourth appeal I have made for the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOP in the national interest.

“Once more, I wish to appeal for his release. He is harmless even though he has grown and gained greater prominence since his detention as the Igbo leader of the moment.

“This is too bad for the country in dire need of national unity and cohesion.

“Citizens such as Kanu who speak for their ethnic groups are not the problems but those who failed to manage and resolve the issues and grievances that made such people relevant.

“It serves no useful purpose doing so. Kanu was not known or only little known before his first detention.

“His arrest over estimated his importance and made him a special guest of honour of the state and instant hero of ethnic group through avoidable detention..

“Now he is deeply strongly seated in the minds and hearts of the Igbo as their lead freedom fighter.

“The longer he remains there, the more he becomes endeared to his people, many of them clamouring for his unconditional release from detention and check the disunity of the country.

“Mr. President. kindly accept our appeal and release Mr Kanu as one of the genuine steps to reconciliation and promotion of national unity.”
