Abdulsalami Abubakar, Sultan to mediate in Niger leadership crisis

Former Nigerian military leader, General Abdusalami Alhaji Abubakar and Sultan of Sokoto & President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Mohammed Abubakar III, are scheduled to mediate in the Niger leadership crisis.

Both leaders will arrive in Niamey for diplomatic talks with military leaders who overthrew former President Bazoum of Niger, according to a Twitter user, Idris4Peace who tweeted at @Edrees4P on Wednesday at 9.56 am.

Although, he did not cite the authorities that gave dispatched them fid the assignment, while one folloer Abdullahi Abdulhamid responded by saying “that is what we expect”, ABBAH @abbah_1 said “wrong choice. Jonathan, PMB will be the best.”

Recall that the junta in Niger had last week overthrown President Bazoum and held him hostage in the Presidential Palace in Niamey.

Regional and continental bodies have piled pressures on the junta, asking them to restore democratic order. But the junta has refused to budge.
