The Pro-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, has commended the Edo State Government for securing the release of 38 students of the university who were arrested in connection with a security incident in Ekpoma.
The students were among 52 persons arrested by security agencies in the area.
In a statement, Chief Orbih urged all stakeholders, including political leaders, community leaders, civil society actors, youth groups, and opinion moulders, to rise above politics and collaborate with security agencies and government authorities in addressing the root causes of insecurity in the area.
He emphasised that security is a collective responsibility and that criminality, insecurity, and violence do not recognise political parties, ethnic identities, or personal affiliations.

The Pro-Chancellor condemned attempts by some individuals and groups to politicise the security challenges confronting Ekpoma and its environs, and to deliberately misrepresent facts in order to score political points.
He described such actions as unhelpful and dangerous, and urged all stakeholders to work together to restore peace and security in the area.
Chief Orbih also called on the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and unbiased investigation into the incident, and to bring all individuals found to be connected with kidnapping or any other criminal acts to justice without fear or favour.
The Pro-Chancellor’s statement is a call to unity and responsibility, emphasizing that the safety and integrity of Ambrose Alli University is a collective responsibility that requires the support of all stakeholders. He urged everyone to work together to ensure a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment for learning and academic excellence.
The incident that led to the arrest of the students is still under investigation, and the Edo State Government has assured the public that all those found culpable will be brought to justice.
The university administration has also assured students and parents that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of all students.
