The 9th House of Representatives Deputy Minority Leader and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Hon. Toby Okechukwu, is now the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the 10th Assembly Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu.
Kalu is representing the people of Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reports said that though Kalu had not made any of his appointments official because of several interests, some were already acting in various capacities.
Okechukwu has been going round addressing himself at several fora as the CoS to Kalu, while some of the documents signed and sighted have been bearing the name of Okechukwu as the CoS to Kalu.
Okechukwu was a leading voice in the opposition against the APC and its policies in the 9th assembly and a member of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council
Atiku was the presidential candidate of PDP in the February 25 General Elections.
However, Okechukwu has not given any rational behind his decision to serve as the CoS to Kalu, but there are indications that the former deputy minority leader might have tactically defected to the APC.
Report said that since Okechukwu and returned bid was jeopardised by the Labour Party movement in the South East and some part of Nigeria, he might have seen the appointment as a way of keeping himself busy.
Meanwhile, Kalu has maintained a studied silence on the appointments of his aides like his boss, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas did when he issued a statement announcing the appointment of his aides
However, some of his supporters and those who worked for him during his campaign have been working surreptitiously in his office in different categories.
