Silence broke in Bara community, Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State, on Sunday, when police swooped in and arrested a 65-year-old man accused of assaulting an 8-year-old girl inside an uncompleted building.
The suspect, Mohammed Yau of Kojole village, was picked up by officers from the Bara Police Divisional Headquarters after a report was made about the incident.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement released in Damaturu.
According to the police, the child was immediately taken to a health facility for medical and forensic examination.
The suspect was also taken for examination as investigators begin building a case for prosecution.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on the direct orders of the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin.
In a strongly worded reaction, the CP condemned the act and vowed that the command would pursue the matter to the full extent of the law.
“This command remains committed to protecting the lives and rights of vulnerable members of our society,” Jibrin said. “Victims of gender-based violence and child abuse will get justice. There will be no cover-up.”
The CP also urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies immediately.
As of press time, investigations were ongoing.
