42-year-old docked for alleged housebreaking, stealing

A 42-year-old man, Lawal Ismail, on Friday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, for alleged housebreaking and stealing of a motorcycle.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a four-count charge of intent to commit crime, housebreaking, stealing and breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 29 at Oniyanrin Area of Ifedapo Street, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi alleged that the defendant broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mr Olarewaju Julius, through the window.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant also stole a Bajaj motorcycle with Registration number FTD 725QC.

He said that the motorcycle worth N450,000 belonged to one Mr Adedeji Ayoola.

Abdullahi added that the defendant broke into the house of one Mr Aderogba Idowu through the window with the intent to commit crime.

Abdullahi also told the court that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace when he was arrested.

He said that the offences contravened Sections: 249(d), 309(9), 411 and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Adebayo ruled that the surety must be a civil servant and swear to an affidavit of means.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 8 for substantive hearing. (NAN)
