Three men, Daramola Babatunde, 38; Shaibu Ahmed, 35 and Isiaku Yinusa, 35), were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly fighting in public.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a three-count charge of engaging in a public fight, breach of peace and malicious damage, to which they, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 20 at about 1:00 p.m. at Odo Ayedun-Ekiti.
Adeniyi said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
He also said that the trio maliciously damaged a truck windscreen, valued at N200,000, a property in possession of Shaibu Ahmed.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 67, 181(1) (d) and 363 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
Babalogbon adjourned the case till July 24 for hearing.
