“28,000 Stronger”: COAS Shaibu passes out 8,000 new soldiers to boost Army’s war on terror, banditry

● New troops to reinforce theatres as FG ramps up recruitment under Tinubu’s directive

The Nigerian Army has injected fresh manpower into its fight against insecurity with the graduation of over 8,000 newly trained soldiers from Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on Saturday, 27 June 2026.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the passing out parade is part of a Federal Government directive for the Army to recruit 28,000 additional personnel to strengthen its force structure and operational effectiveness.

*“Combat-ready and mission-oriented”*
Describing the exercise as a milestone, Gen. Shaibu said the recruitment is aimed at addressing manpower gaps and improving the Army’s capacity to respond decisively to terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other emerging threats.

“The recruits have undergone rigorous military training designed to develop their physical endurance, tactical competence, leadership qualities and fighting spirit required for contemporary military operations,” he stated.

He noted that the new soldiers are joining “at a critical period” when troops remain engaged across multiple theatres in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the protection of lives and property. He charged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, courage, loyalty and selfless service.

The COAS reminded the graduands that the nation had invested heavily in their training and now expects results.

“Remain steadfast, resilient and committed to duty, while conducting all operations in accordance with established military ethics, professionalism and the highest standards of respect for human rights,” Shaibu said.

He expressed confidence that the new personnel would reinforce ongoing operations and contribute to restoring lasting peace across the country.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, congratulated the soldiers on completing their training and commended their resilience and discipline.

He reaffirmed Osun State Government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and urged the new soldiers to remain dedicated to national service.

The passing out parade forms a key phase of the Army’s ongoing drive to build a more professional, combat-ready force under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s security agenda.
