The Police in Ogun, on Monday, arraigned a 23-year-old man, Chinoso Michael, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court for allegedly blocking a major road to extort money from the public.
Michael, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 22, about 8.30.p.m. at Sango-Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by blocking the major road, thus constituting nuisance and demanding money from the public.
He said that the offence contravened Section 249 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned to May 14, 2025, for further hearing.
