Peter Obi is “nearing a defining political decision” for 2027 after weeks of high-level talks with stakeholders, allies, and potential partners, the Obidient Movement said Saturday.
The statement, signed by Interim National Coordinator Dr Yunusa Tanko, signals that Obi’s next move is close — even as he urges supporters to ignore “speculative reports.”
Obi is in “extensive, high-level consultations” focused on the “most strategic and effective path forward,” Tanko said.
The talks come as opposition figures quietly explore coalition options to challenge the ruling party in 2027. Obi has emerged as a central figure in those alignments.
“These engagements are deliberate, thorough, and guided by the overriding objective of securing a future that works for all Nigerians,” Tanko said.
With rumors swirling about defections and alliances, the movement asked supporters to wait for Obi himself.
“Do not be swayed by speculative reports,” Tanko said. “Peter Obi remains fully committed to this mission and will, in due course, formally address the Obidient Movement and the general public to provide clarity on the current situation and the direction ahead.”
“Our strength lies in our unity and focus. Let us remain steadfast as we await further communication.”
Obi’s 2023 run redrew Nigeria’s political map. Any coalition move or new platform in 2027 would shake up the field again.
For now, Tanko insists the process reflects the movement’s core: “integrity, accountability, and active citizen participation.”
