A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Great Joshua MacIver, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

MacIver declared his ambition in a letter addressed to the state chairman and the State Working Committee, SWC, of the party in Yenagoa.

He said competence, experience, commitment, transparency and welfare of the people, rather than zoning, should guide the choice of the party’s candidate.

“I firmly believe that the people of Bayelsa State deserve a leader who prioritises effectiveness, the welfare of our people, and the development of our state,” he said.

MacIver pledged to donate N70 million monthly to the PDP from August 2026 as part of efforts to rebuild and reposition the party in the state.

His declaration comes as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the governorship poll, with stakeholders positioning for the contest.
